In preparation for the 2023 general elections, there is insinuation that opposition political parties in Kwara State have shown interests in top chieftains of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) including Mallam Saliu Mustapha, Alhaji Yahaya Seriki, among others.
According to reports, a 10-man zonal strategy and technical committee set up by the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has disclosed that part of its assignments was to attract high-profile members of the ruling APC and other parties in the 5 states of the north-central into the SDP.
The chairman of the Committee, Mr. Nelson Jibo, gave this hint on Sunday while speaking to newsmen.
He said, “We are saddled with the responsibility of heading the strategy and technical committee arm of our great party, and to move it to the next level.
“Part of our agenda as a committee is to ensure that the SDP is taken to the grassroots of the middlebelt region.
“It is also good to let you know that we are starting with the process of receiving thousands of decampees from APC, PDP and other political parties, and Kwara state is a very fertile ground for us as a result of the high calibre of politicians who have decamped into the party in recent times.
Meanwhile, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara state also revealed that there is a groundswell of opinions in favour of the moves to attract Mustapha into the party fold in Kwara state.
