2023: Era when politicians manufacture millions of votes is over – Buhari
As the 2023 general elections are fast approaching, President Muhammadu Buhari has said that the era when politicians manufacture millions of votes during election is gone.
The President also pressed Nigerian people to oppose those whose motive is to cause the breakdown of law and order in the country, giving an assurance that no person or association will be given chance to ruin Nigeria.
President Buhari made this revelation while speaking at an Iftar dinner with Governors, Ministers, and Heads of Government Agencies at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
He said, ‘We have the land, we have the resources, and we have the people. But I do not know why people will allow themselves to be successfully subverted to destabilise their own country.”
President Buhari, who appreciated the Governors and Ministers for respecting his invitation to break the Ramadan fast. He however expressed confidence that despite the current security issues, the country will excel.
Regarding the forthcoming general elections, Buhari established that being beneficiary of free, fair and credible elections, “the introduction of technology and the Permanent Voters Card (PVCs) will make it impossible for anyone to claim millions of votes again in the country.”
Chairman, Nigeria Governors Forum and Governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi, appreciated the President for exhibiting resilience and determination at necessary period in Nigeria’s history.
‘‘We have a leader who is not distracted by momentary challenges but has continued to commit to the renewal of our nation and we, governors, ministers and heads of government agencies are equally dedicated to building a better Nigeria, on your watch,’’ he said.
Acknowledging that this year’s Holy month of Ramadan concurred with the just concluded Christian Lenten period, the Governor of Ekiti said it holds great spiritual remarks on the significance of renewal, sacrifice, almsgiving, forgiveness and healing for the individual as well as the nation.
The iftar/dinner witnessed the presence of governors of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
