2 persons die as unknown gunmen invade police checkpoint in Ebonyi 

Unknown gunmen have killed 2 persons at a police checkpoint along Enugu-Abakaliki expressway in Abakaliki, the capital of Ebonyi State.

It was gathered that the incident happened around 8pm, Monday night.

A source who witnessed the scenario said the gunmen came on motorcycles to attack the officers of the police at the check point.

The unknown gunmen invaded the checkpoint and launched attack on police officers on duty.

The reaction of the police officers on duty resulted to gun battle, which made passers-by and motorists run for their own lives.

Those who witnessed the scenario confirmed that a policeman was gunned down while one of the unknown gunmen was also gunned down.

The spokesperson of the Ebonyi State Police command, SP Chris Anyanwu, confirmed the development.

The spokesperson confirmed that a police officer and a gunman lost their lives during the gun battle, on Monday night.
