The police on Monday dragged a 52-year-old Sikiru Abideen and a 54-year-old Kolawole Akintade, before an Ibadan Court for allegedly poisoning 3,700 fish.
They were brought before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court Ibadan.
The defendants whose addresses of residence were not disclosed have been charged by the police with conduct that could trigger cruelty to animal and breach of peace.
ASP Sikiru Ibrahim, who’s the Prosecution Counsel, informed the court that the defendants carried out the offence, November 4, around 7. 15 a.m, at Oluyole area Ibadan.
The Prosecution Counsel, made an allegation that the defendants comported themselves in a way which could trigger a breach of peace by making use of chemical which was suspected to be poisonous to eliminate the fishes in a pond.
He also made an allegation that the defendants applied the chemical in the pond.
He also said that the offence was a violation of the provisions of sections 249(d) and 495(d) of the Criminal laws of Oyo State, 2000.
When the matter was read to the defendants, they however pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Mrs T. B. Oyekanmi, who was the magistrate, admitted the defendants to N200, 000 bail each plus two sureties each in like sum.
The magistrate has adjourned the matter until December 8 for hearing.
