2 killed in petrol tanker fire accident along Ilorin-Jebba expressway
A driver and his motor boy have reportedly lost their lives following a petrol tanker accident at Pasa Village along the Ilorin–Jebba Expressway.
According to reports, the tanker with registration number NSR 966 ZQ, carrying 33,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), lost control, veered off the road, and overturned, igniting a massive fire.
It was gathered that the incident which happened at about 3:43 pm., on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, was responded to by the men of the Kwara State Fire Service.
In a statement by the spokesperson of the Fire Service, Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, the emergency crews arrived promptly to extinguish the blaze, while also preventing further spread to nearby traffic.
Reacting to the incident, the Director, Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa commiserated with the families of the deceased, while advising all road users, particularly tanker drivers, to exercise the highest level of caution on highways, emphasizing the need for regular vehicle maintenance, strict adherence to speed limits, avoidance of night journeys where possible, and proper rest for drivers to prevent fatigue-related accidents.
He also urged motorists to always keep fire extinguishers in their vehicles and to promptly report emergencies to the Fire Service for timely intervention.
