Suspected gunmen have reportedly murdered two farmers in a fresh attack at their farms in the Onipi community in Adoka District of Otukpo LGA of Benue State.
According to reports from locals, the attacks occurred on Tuesday, during which many other farmers were injured, with a few others still missing.
The locals said that the victims were working in their farms when the armed invaders attacked them, killing the two and injuring many others.
Alfred Oketa Omakwu, the Caretaker Council Chairman of Otukpo LGA, while confirming the incident, said two farmers were killed by the armed invaders on their farms, adding that 12 people were injured during the attack and taken to the hospital while tricycles loaded with yams were burnt along the farm road.
He said it was the first time the Onipi community came under attack by the armed invaders, stressing that harvested produce, which was being conveyed from farms, was also burnt on the roadside by the attackers.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) SP Catherine Anene, while also confirming the attack, said, “Two persons were confirmed dead, but normalcy has returned to the area following the deployment of officers.”
