11 suspected cultists apprehended in Ogun
No fewer than 11 suspected cultists have been arrested by the security agencies at Sango-Ota, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The suspects, who were reported to be members of a deadly cult group, were arrested on October 11.
The spokesperson of the police in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, revealed the identities of the suspects as: Ibukun Adeoye, Moshood Owolabi, Olukunde Isaac, Yomi Samson Faruk Salami, Olayemi Arukudu, David Nwuzor, , Nwanah Samuel, Yusuf Olajide, Chukwuemeka and Ogunrinde Ganiyu .
The image maker of the police command said they were caught after the police received am intelligence information at Sango-Ota divisional police headquarters that the suspects, who were responsible for various cult clashes in Sango-Ota recently, were having a meeting at 13, Ago Adura Street, Ijoko Ota and in readiness “for another round of violent attack.”
He added that SP Saleh Dahiru, the DPO of Sango-Ota division, had mobilized police officers and those of the So-Safe Corps, the Amotekun Corps and Civil Defense Corps to the affected scene, where seven suspects were arrested as fled the scene
It was gathered that four other suspects who attempted to escape were caught with the help of members of the community.
“They have all confessed being members of Aiye cult group,” Oyeyemi said adding that weeds suspected to be Indian hemp, Colorado and Bonky were recovered from the gang.
Mr Lanre Bankole, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun state, has ordered the movement of the suspects to Anti-cultists unit of the state CIID for necessary investigation and due prosecution.
