Two late goals from the Dutch saw off a spirited African champions in a game where the influence of Sadio Mane was greatly missed.

It was a more or less like a shared show in the first half of the game as the two teams hit themselves from end to end,yet with few goal chances created.

While heading to the break with a goalless draw was a good result for the Teranga Lions of Senegal, they would later bow to the persistent call of the Dutch in their final third as the time raced to the end.

Frenkie de jong who has been calling all the shot with his wonderful performance between the two ends of the pitch would eventually had his cross headed home by Cody Gakpo in the 84th minutes- beating Eduardo Mendy in a 50-50 situation.

Van Gaal’s boys would ultimately sealed it when Mendy failed to palmed Memphis Depay’s shot in the stroke of the full time and was punished by Davy Klassen who wasted not time to send home the loosed ball.

The result leaves the Senagalese a high mountain to climb in their bid to cross to the next stage of the tournament.

Senegal will now seek redemption when they face host, Qatar on November 25th in their second round match.
