Women should enhance their capacity to participate in politics: Lawmaker
Mrs. Onyinye Ugwu, Deputy House Leader of the Enugu State House of Assembly, has advised women to enhance their capacity and become more involved in politics, particularly as the 2023 general elections approach.
On Wednesday, Ugwu made the announcement in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu State.
“Women have innate leadership qualities that may effect positive change in the growth of our immediate community and the nation as a whole.”
“We need to increase our capacities in all areas so that we can contribute to Nigeria’s growth.”
“The time has come for women to shape their own futures, including actively engaging in politics and decision-making,” she stated.
Ugwu, who is also the Chairman of the House Committee on Gender Affairs and Social Development, stated that women have done well in the state during Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s administration.
“Women are occupying highly critical positions in the state, including the deputy governor, commissioners, and major officials in the House of Assembly,” she explained.
The member also praised the governor’s wife, Monica, for implementing several empowerment programmes to help women in the state become financially independent.
