Woman in court for allegedly stealing neighbour’s necklace
A 35-year-old businesswoman, Olushola Ajakaiye, has been dragged before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing her co-tenant’s necklace valued at N120,000.
Ajakaiye, who resides at Gowon Estate, Egbeda, Alimosho area of Lagos, is facing a three-count charge of assault, malicious damage and stealing.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Olasunkanmi Adejumola, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Dec. 31, 2021 at her residence.
Adejumola alleged that the defendant stole a gold chain belonging to the complainant, Mrs Kemi Adelakun, from her room.
He further alleged that the defendant also assaulted the complainant and damaged her phone worth N88,000.
“The defendant later accosted the complainant on her way to work, beat her up, and damaged her phone,” the prosecutor said.
According to him, the offences contravene sections 172, 287 and 350 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that Section 172 carries three years imprisonment for assault, while Section 287 also attracts three years for stealing.
The Magistrate, Mrs O.A Odubajo, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Odubajo said that the sureties should be gainfully employed with evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
She adjourned the case to March 2, for further mention.
