Wizkid, a popular artiste in Nigeria, broke another record by becoming the first singer from the nation to achieve a diamond certification from the Record Industry Association of America.
For his contributions to Drake’s mega-hit “One Dance,” which was confirmed to have sold more than 10 million units in the United States, Afrobeats singer Wizkid has gotten an RIAA diamond certification.
Drake’s “Views” album includes the track, which was released in 2016 and features Wizkid and Kyla Reid. The would go on to receive over 2.4 billion Spotify streams, making it a global hit.
‘One Dance’ is a defining moment for Wizkid because it raised his popularity and made him become one of Africa’s biggest stars. It was also a significant turning point for Afrobeats because the song introduced the genre to a wider audience.
Wizkid receives a diamond RIAA certification, making him the first musician from Nigeria to do so. The platinum plaque for his international hit track “Essence” featuring Tems and Justin Bieber was the most recent RIAA plaque awarded to the Grammy winner.
