Wizkid celebrates deceased mother, Jane Balogun on birthday
Afrobeat Super Star, Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, better known by his stage name Wizkid, has wished his late mother Jane Dolapo Balogun a happy posthumous birthday.
In a thread he shared today on his official Twitter account, formerly known as X, Wizkid offers his posthumous encomium on his mother.
He said: “Happy birthday love of my life! Miss you everyday. First one without you here feels unreal. Nothing makes sense without you mama! Life is empty without you. Continue to watch over us ! My heart is broken forever ! 💔 love you love love you MORAYO mi. Your smile is all a memory I will never forget. Your laugh! Your hugs and kisses. I miss you dearly! ❤️❤️”
Wizkid’s mother, Jane Dolapo Balogun, died on August 18, 2023 in London.
The Afrobeat star expressed strong feelings, saying the pain of losing his mum ‘hurts deeply’.
In 2014, Wizkid dedicated a song “Mummy Mi” off his “Ayo” album to his mother where he lauded her for all the joy she gave to him, promising to spoil her with the finest things in life.
Wizkid, 34, is a Nigerian singer and songwriter.
Born in the Ojuelegba suburb of Surulere, Lagos, Wizkid is a voice in the emerging Afrobeats movement.
His music is a blend of Afrobeats, afropop, R&B, afrobeat, reggae, dancehall, and pop.
