Wike explains Fubara’s whereabouts after end of emergency rule in Rivers

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed concerns over the absence of Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, following the end of emergency rule in the state.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, Wike said there is no law compelling the governor to immediately return to office after the emergency period.

Reports earlier indicated that Fubara’s whereabouts remained unknown despite expectations that he would resume official duties.

Wike, however, suggested that the governor might be attending to other engagements outside Port Harcourt.

He said: “There’s no law that says he must resume work today as governor. I don’t understand the way we operate. For example, if I was sworn in today, it doesn’t mean I must go to the office tomorrow. You don’t know what my programmes are. You don’t know what the governor has scheduled to do.
You don’t even know where he is. Governance is not that you must be in the office every time. No, it’s not true. Do you know whether he’s in Abuja doing one or two things? Do you know whether he’s in Lagos? I’m not his CSO or protocol officer.”

Wike’s clarification comes amid speculations about the governor’s absence and his next line of action following the expiration of emergency rule in Rivers State.
