Why we postponed gov’ship, state assembly elections till March 18 — INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has revealed why it rescheduled the much anticipated governorship elections by one week, till Saturday March 18, 2023.

The Informant247 understands that the governorship and House of Assembly elections were initially programmed to hold on Saturday March 11, 2023.

The inability of the commission to kick-start the re-configuration of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines necessitated the postponement of the elections.

The electoral commission identified the need to reconfigure the BVAS machines which were used for the February 25 presidential and National Assembly elections.

The National Commissioner & Chairman Information and Voter Education Committee, Barr. Festus Okoye, said: “For instance, the BVAS can only be activated on the specific date and time of an election.

“Having been used for the Presidential and National Assembly elections on 25th February 2023, it is necessary to reconfigure the BVAS for activation on the date of the governorship and State Assembly elections.”
