Why I named my first son after Senator Saliu Mustapha, says Media Practitioner
Lukman Bolakale Oluwatoyin, the publisher of Satcom News, has given the reasons behind his decision to name his newborn son after the Senator representing Kwara Central Senatorial District, Senator Saliu Mustapha.
According to Oluwatoyin, the choice was rooted in his deep admiration for the Senator’s leadership, integrity, and commitment to public service.
Oluwatoyin, an Ilorin-born journalist, welcomed his first child last week in Abuja following his wedding last year, which was attended by several high-profile personalities, including Senator Mustapha himself. The naming ceremony, held at Isale Akanni Compound, Edun in Ilorin South Local Government Area, was graced by close family and friends to celebrate the arrival of Saliu Atanda Olatunji Oluwatoyin.
In a chat with newsmen, Oluwatoyin explained that the decision to name his son after Senator Mustapha was not just a gesture of admiration, but a symbolic hope that his son would grow to embody the values of service, humility, and integrity that the Senator represents.
“Senator Mustapha is someone I deeply respect, both in his public and private life,” Oluwatoyin said. “His leadership and dedication to uplifting others are qualities I want my son to grow into. Naming my child after him is a way to express my desire for my son to follow in such noble footsteps.”
Islamic clerics who officiated the ceremony offered prayers for the newborn, emphasizing that bearing the name of a leader like Saliu Mustapha could carry blessings and strength. They prayed that the child would grow to mirror the honorable character of his namesake.
For Oluwatoyin, naming his son after the Senator also symbolized his appreciation for the Senator’s personal impact on his life. “Senator Mustapha has been a source of inspiration to me, not just as a leader but as a mentor,” he added. “I hope this gesture reflects how much I value his influence, and I am hopeful that my child will carry forward the torch of excellence.”
The ceremony concluded with prayers for both the child and Senator Mustapha. Guests at the event lauded the Senator’s continued service to his constituency and the nation, with many agreeing that the choice of name was a fitting tribute to a leader whose influence continues to inspire positive change.
