Sheikh Alimi’s journey to Ilorin

Born with a thirst for knowledge, Sheikh Alimi embarked on a transformative journey from Gwandu to Ilorin in pursuit of a place conducive to his mission.

Kuwo and Kajola are villages in the Asa Local Government Area of Kwara State, where the Sheik initially settled. According to the chief imam, the location was closer to Kuwo in the past than Kajola. However, due to an inferno that ravaged Kuwo years ago, the settlement now resides within Kajola village, following the relocation of the Kuwo people. Historical records indicate that Sheik Alimi journeyed to various places in Yorubaland before ultimately establishing himself in Kuwo.

It was in Kajola that Sheik Alimi prayed to God for a suitable place to permanently settle down, leading to the discovery of Ilorin. Following this discovery, Sheik Alimi did not return to Gwandu but instead brought his family to Ilorin, where they became the rulers of the ancient town.

His odyssey through various towns and villages eventually led him to Ilorin, where the significance of his first abode endures as a sacred site, drawing pilgrims seeking spiritual connection.
