Wet season: Rice, maize farmers set to receive essential inputs from Kwara govt
The Kwara State Government is set to commence the distribution of essential farm inputs to rice and maize farmers across its 16 Local Government Areas.
This initiative, led by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, aims to bolster agricultural productivity and enhance food self-sufficiency in the state.
State Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mrs. Oloruntoyosi Thomas, announced the upcoming launch during a visit to farm cluster groups in Edu Local Government Area.
She emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting genuine farmers to increase the state’s food production and revenue generation.
Accompanied by ministry officials and Mr. Charles Adetola, CEO of Harvest Value Chain Limited, Mrs. Thomas was confident on the ongoing verification process of farmers’ data, noting that the effort will ensures that only legitimate farmers receive the support, reinforcing the state’s objective of effective agricultural interventions.
“The current administration is dedicated to working exclusively with real farmers. We are here to verify the farmers listed and ensure they receive the necessary support,” stated Mrs. Thomas. “Our partnership with Harvest Value Chain Limited is crucial in this verification process, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of farmers’ details.”
Mr. Adetola expressed gratitude for the opportunity provided by the state government, noting that the verification process is crucial for equitable distribution.
“We have gathered comprehensive data on the farmers, including their names, BVNs, and phone numbers. Our current efforts are focused on tagging each farmer to their specific farmland to streamline the intervention process,” he explained.
Farmers in Yelwa village, Tsaragi Ward II, voiced their appreciation for the state’s initiative. Mrs. Aminat Mahmud, representing the farmers, thanked the government for its continued support and the measures taken to ensure that real farmers benefit from the program.
