We’re focused on making recovered housing estate useful for Nigerians, says Housing Minister

The Federal Government is taking significant steps to rehabilitate a 753-unit housing estate recovered from former Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele.

Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Dangiwa, and EFCC Chairman, Mr. Olanipekun Olukoyede, led a joint inspection of the site in Abuja as preparations begin for a full technical evaluation.

The estate, recently handed over by the EFCC on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive, represents a major milestone in asset recovery efforts. During the visit, Dangiwa emphasized the estate’s potential to serve the public under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

“This is not just about taking over a property; it’s about putting it to work for Nigerians. We’re focused on making this estate habitable and useful as soon as possible,” he stated. He announced that the Ministry would soon begin structural integrity tests to assess the readiness of the buildings and infrastructure for safe habitation.

He also detailed plans for necessary infrastructure improvements, including perimeter fencing, roadways, drainage, and other vital amenities, following the technical assessment.

Echoing Dangiwa’s sentiments, EFCC Chairman Olukoyede highlighted the objective of transparency in the recovery process. “This is a clear message that looted assets will not just be recovered; they will be used to benefit the people,” he said, marking this inspection as a significant step toward transforming the recovered property into a national asset aligned with the administration’s housing and anti-corruption goals.
