We recorded 76 cases of domestic violence, 11 rape cases in Kwara: NSCDC
The Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has revealed that it recorded 76 cases of domestic violence and 11 rape cases in the last one year.
In a statement issued during a press briefing at the Command headquarters in Ilorin, Commandant Umar Mohammed disclosed that the Gender Unit had handled a total of 159 cases of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) over the past year.
The statement detailed that these cases included 76 instances of domestic violence, physical assault, and intimidation; 58 cases of abandonment of responsibility; 11 cases of sexual abuse and rape; 12 cases of threats to life; and 2 cases involving missing children.
Umar added that several cases are currently pending in court, assuring the public that all offenders will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
He reiterated the Corps’ zero-tolerance policy for Gender-Based Violence and emphasized their ongoing commitment to collaborating with relevant stakeholders to aggressively tackle this societal issue.
Commandant Umar also urged the public to support the Corps by providing actionable intelligence to help prevent crime within the state.
