WAEC issues apology for late exam conduct, citing need to prevent leakage
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has expressed regret for the delays encountered in administering the English Language Paper 2 of the ongoing 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
According to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the examination took place on Wednesday evening.
In a statement from Moyosola Adesina, the Acting Head of Public Affairs Department, the council outlined the difficulties it experienced.
“While maintaining the integrity and security of our examination, we faced considerable challenges primarily due to our major aim of preventing leakage of any paper,” WAEC stated in their announcement.
The council recognised the critical importance of conducting examinations on time and acknowledged the ripple effects any delays may have on candidates, their schools, and their families. “We sincerely apologise for any inconveniences caused,” they added.
Despite successfully achieving their goal of securing the examination papers, WAEC admitted that this focus inadvertently affected the timeliness and smooth execution of the exam process.
“In spite of our best efforts, we encountered logistical hurdles, security concerns, and socio-cultural factors that negatively influenced our operations,” the council explained.
WAEC reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the highest standards in examination conduct and pledged to continue promoting academic excellence in the future.
