VP Yemi Osinbajo to declare 21st National Sports festival open in Asaba

Nigeria’s Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo will declare the 21st National Sports festival open in Asaba, Delta State Capital on the eve of Thursday.

A total number of 14,000 athletes will compete for medals at the festival which is often described as the ‘Nigeria Olympics’.

All the 36 States of the federation including federal capital territory will be fielding athletes in the event that will witness 30 sporting activities

“I am optimistic that at the end of the competition, budding talents will emerge and the country will witness more podium performances through them in subsequent global competitions”,the Honourable Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr Sunday Dare has said on Monday.

Delta State are champions of the last edition of the festival which held in Benin, Edo State.

While the opening ceremony of the event will hold at the late Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, the closing ceremony is also scheduled for the same venue on December 10.

Hip-hop artists like Bella Shmurda, Harry Song and Ruger have been billed to thrill participants at the ceremony which will begin at 5pm.
