Updated: Court upholds suspension of Kwara LG chairs
The Kwara State High court sitting in Ilorin, today, upheld the suspension of Council Chairmen who are currently under investigation over alleged misappropriation of fund.
Recalled that the 16 local government council bosses in the state were suspended by the Kwara state governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq acting on a recommendation by the House of Assembly over the allegation of missappriopration of N33 billion accrued to the council.
Justice Hammed Gegele who presided over the matter held that the claimants lack the constitutional power to institute any legal action against the government.
He added that the House of Assembly, according to the constitution can recommend suspension of the chairmen, following the Nigeria constitution that empowers the lawmakers to investigate and expose corruption.
The court however dismissed the claims of the council chairmen.
