Unknown gunmen attack police station, kill two operatives in Imo community
Unknown gunmen, on Saturday, attacked Umuguma division Police Station in Owerri West Local Government Area headquarters in Imo State and killed two Police operatives.
gathered that one of the operatives, Ifeanyi, who hailed from Umuguma, was said to be a final year student of the Imo State University.
According to reports, the gunmen invaded the station during the early hours of Saturday at about 4:30 am while the operation lasted over 30 minutes.
A source, Mr. Okechukwu, said they heard heavy explosives in successions.
He said “nobody slept here, we were scared to leave our homes but we knew it was a heavy bombardment. Unfortunately, they killed our own brother, Ifeanyi who was trying to defend the station and his people by extension”.
While giving the account of the incident, the source confirmed that the gunmen overwhelmed the security operatives during the operation which left cars and properties destroyed.
The Imo State Police Spokesperson, Michael Abattam while confirming the attack maintained that no life was lost and no firearm was carted away.
“Yes, there was an incident, but our men repelled them, no life was lost, and neither did we lose any firearm. They threw in dynamite which ignited the roof but our men engaged them. No life was lost and no arms were lost,” he stated.
