UNIPORT confirms death of postgraduate student

A postgraduate student of University of Port Harcourt, UNIPORT, Francis Mgbamgba has been recovered dead in Rivers State.

A student of the department of humanities of UNIPORT was found dead in his off-campus house in Alakahia, Obio-Akpor local government area of the state.

He was found dead on Saturday, February 11, 2023.

Report has it that his neighbours set their eyes on him last on Wednesday last week.

The management of the UNIPORT revealed that the post graduate student was a student of the department of Fine Arts and Design Department.

The spokesperson of the tertiary institution, Sam Kpenu, confirmed the incident to newsmen.

He said the “deceased was a likeable person, a postgraduate student the University”.

The spokesperson also said the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Georgewill Owunari, the Dean of Faculty Humanities and a sister to the victim confirmed that the body was that of late Francis Mgbamgba.

“His lives in an off-campus apartment in Alakahia, Obio-Akpor local government area of the state. He is a postgraduate student our university. He was last seen on Wednesday last week, but his body was discovered on Saturday February 11. His body has been deposited in the mortuary,” Kpenu said.

The circumstances that led to the death of the student was not ascertained at the time of filing this report.

The police command in the state has not reacted to the incident.
