Unilorin through to quarter-final of Higher Institutions Football League

The male football team of the University of Ilorin has qualified for the quarter final of the Higher Institution Football League (HiFL).

Also known as Unilorin Warriors,the team ldefeated their University of Agriculture Makurdi of the league 3-2 on aggregate to scoop one of the available ticket to the last Eight.

The ‘Warriors’, who had earlier defeated the Makurdi based team 1 nil in the first leg round of 16 encounter would have to qualify on the away goal rule after playing out a 2-2 all draw in Ilorin on Wednesday.

The match played at the main bowl of the Unilorin Sports Complex saw the home side having to come back from a two goals down to secure a draw against the visitors who are also the inaugural champions of the league.

Goals from John Aogo and Unite Amodu had earlier handed the visitors a comfortable lead before Jamiu Mujeeb scored a penalty in the stroke of the half time to reduce the tally for the hosts.

While the score line remained open to both teams, Ogungbenro Mustapha in his usual manner headed home the second goal for Unilorin in the 59th minutes to push his side to a more safest angle.

The Unilorin team will now face Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University of Technology,Bauchi (ATBU) University in the quarter final game which is billed to be a two legged affairs.
