Unilorin SU President to ASUU: find another means of fighting FG aside strike
The Students’ Union President of University Ilorin, Wisdom Oluwasheun Okoko has appealed to the Academic Staff Union of Universities(ASUU) to devise another means of conveying their plight to the Federal Government other than embarking on industrial action.
He made this appeal during a radio program on Sobi fM entitled “Gbagede Oselu”.
He noted that the strike usually affects academic schedule of Nigerian students, calling on the Union to find another means of protesting.
He said, “Is the strike the only way of fighting for what ASUU is fighting for ? they should find other ways of conveying their grievances to the Federal Government other than embarking on strike which usually has a negative effect on students.
“The Government that they say they are demonstrating for, the strike doesn’t have direct effect on them, their children are not studying in Nigerian Universities, they are studying abroad.
Most of the time it usually affects us, it usually delays our year graduation.”
He advised the Union to collaborate with Nigerian students in the fight for the betterment of Nigerian Universities which the Union says it’s clamouring for.
He added, “ASUU should carry along the students in the struggle so that the ordinary Nigerian students can be properly informed about what they are fighting for.
“Majority of students think what ASUU is fighting for is just the increment of salaries and because of that they are making students suffer.”
