UNILORIN secures N4bn from FG to improve medical education

The University of Ilorin has been included amongst 18 universities poised to benefit from a substantial ₦72 billion investment by the Federal Government aimed at advancing medical education, through TETFund.

Dr. Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, disclosed this on Tuesday in Abuja during the inauguration of a ministerial committee focused on the TETFund High Impact Intervention Project for Medical Schools Rehabilitation.

According to the mini, each selected university will receive approximately ₦4 billion, which includes ₦750 million specifically allocated for the construction of hostel facilities, the initiative, which is poised to upgrade existing facilities, expand educational resources, and equip medical schools with the latest technological advancements.

Dr. Alausa emphasized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s ongoing commitment to enhancing medical education and improving healthcare delivery throughout Nigeria.

The event at TETFund’s Headquarters in Abuja was attended by the University of Ilorin’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Wahab Egbewole, SAN.

To ensure the effective implementation of the project and the responsible use of funds, a 12-member Ministerial Monitoring Committee has been established, chaired by Prof. Biodun Sulyman Alabi, Provost of the College of Health Sciences at the University of Ilorin and Chairman of the Association of Provosts of Colleges of Medicine.
