UNILORIN PG students hold 4th personality lecture, award Gov AbdulRazaq, others

The Postgraduate Students Association of University of Ilorin, on Tuesday, held its fourth annual personality lecture to honour the executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and others.

The event themed: fixing a round peg in a round hole: Harnessing youth potentials for prosperous Nigeria was organised at the University auditorium. At the event, the Erudite Magazine was launched.

The president of postgraduate students association, Comr, Adegoke Abass Akorede in his opening remarks said that Nigerian youth are recognized as the most innovative and creative, encouraging them to steer the wheel to a favourable future and revitalized nation.

“It’s high time youths start participating in politics. ‘The not too young to run’ needs to be given proper definition, so that youth will not only be relevant in politics but also make impact in the quest to attaining a better nation viable for our unborn generation,” he stated.

The Turaki of Ilorin, Mallam Saliu Mustapha,  represented by Mallam Nasir Abdulquadri while delivering his speech, said that in order to contribute to the development of the nation, leadership should be treated with determination and youth aspiration.

He said, “The youth must first do away with the old mantra of leaders of tomorrow, such mantra is only there to hold you back and keep you on the waiting list.

“It is pertinent for the youths to know that it is not until they pick a form to contest a political position or be part of the team of an aspirant or a political party before you can play a role in the leadership process through political participation.”

For his part, the Oyo state Senior Special Assistant, SSA on Youth and Sports, Hon Kazeem Bolarinwa Identified silence, inactiveness, failure to add value as the cause of immobility for youth in politics.

He urged youth to be more proactive and responsive, saying that they are the guarantor of the nation’s prosperity.

Kazeem, however, appreciated Kwara State and Oyo State Governors for their great achievements and tremendous success in including significant number of youths in governance.

The Unilorin Postgraduate Students , therefore presented awards to Kwara State Governor Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazak, Mallam Solihu Mustapha Turaki of Ilorin, Senator Yahaya Oloriegbe, Ambassador Yahaya Seriki, Oyo State House of assembly Speaker Rt.Hon Edward Ogundoyin, Amb Kazeem Bolarinwa among others.
