Unilorin 39th convocation: “Relieve your parents, embrace responsibility” – VC tells graduates
The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Egbewole SAN, has urged the graduating students to embrace responsibility, relieve their parents by taking on financial obligations, and be good ambassadors of the institution.
Speaking during the 39th convocation ceremony, themed ‘No Longer Where We Were’, Prof. Egbewole stressed the importance of the graduates stepping up and contributing to nation-building.
He emphasized that this phase of their lives marked the beginning of greater responsibilities, not only for themselves but also for their families and the society at large.
“You are no longer where you were four years ago,” Prof. Egbewole told the graduating students.
“From now on, you will have to pick up bills and take responsibility for your actions. You must contribute meaningfully to nation-building, while ensuring you uphold the values and reputation of this institution,” VC said.
He challenged the graduates to compete favorably in the world, striving to make a positive impact and change the narrative of the country to one that is more enviable and promising.
The Vice Chancellor also encouraged the students to embrace the unique opportunity of being ambassadors of Unilorin.
“Becoming our ambassadors and advocates is a rare and matchless privilege in all ramifications. Guide jealously the heritage bequeathed on you from here on,” he said.
Prof. Egbewole further noted that the university has been recognized by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) as the most preferred institution in Nigeria, and he urged more people to participate in the upcoming celebrations of the institution’s 50th anniversary in 2025.
The Informant247 reports that the University of Ilorin graduated over 12,000 undergraduate students, more than 1,000 postgraduate students, and recorded 256 first-class graduates during the convocation ceremony.
