UCL: Kovacic, Havertz on targets as Chelsea beat Salzburg to reach knock out stages

Goals in either half from Mateo Kovacic and Kai Havertz were enough to see Chelsea past Salzburg, who had levelled shortly after half-time through Junior Adamu in another night yet filled with exciting actions.

Kovacic had in the 23rd minutes of the game sent the visitors to the lead after finding the top corner with a left-footed drive that left goalkeeper Kohn with no chance to cut-off.

The blues enjoyed some hold in the game going in to break but will soon lose their grip when Junior Adamu poked past Kepa to draw the hosts level three minutes after the commencement of the second half.

An end to end affairs that put both sides resolve on the line, it was Chelsea that would eventually got the best of the share when Havertz netted the winner in the 64th minutes to send the London side to the round of 16 of the UCL.

More to a new era, the result means Chelsea has now gone 14 games unbeaten under their new Manager who also becomes the second Englishman to go undefeated in his first nine games as Chelsea manager in all competitions after William Lewis in 1906/07.

It was also a good turn around for Chelsea who were able to amass Nine points from their last three games-rising from the earlier struggle in their first two games where they lost 0-1 to Dinamo Zagreb and drew 1-1 with Salzburg.
