Two separate fire incidents damage yam flour factory, printing press in Kwara
A storey building housing two large halls has been engulfed by fire at about 3:15 pm on Saturday, at Unik AJ Prints, located along Opomalu Road in Ilorin-East local government area, affecting printing machines and other production materials.
The inferno caused by a spark from the inverter system, subsequently ignited by nearby combustible materials.
The spokesman of the State Fire Service, Hassan Adekunle, who confirmed the incident, said that prompt arrival of the firefighters and their their rigorous work under challenging early-morning conditions helped to contain the blaze.
“Their swift and determined efforts successfully prevented the fire from spreading to adjoining structures, averting further damage in the densely built area,” the statement added
In a related development, another fire outbreak occurred at Kunzol Multi-Sector Nigeria Limited in the Kilanko–Agbonka area of Ilorin-South local government area at about 11 pm on Friday, affecting yam flour and garri factory as the blaze engulfed the entire factory area.
According to a statement by Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, the spokesperson of the Kwara state Fire Service, the preliminary investigation revealed that the fire was triggered by remnants of an unquenched fire, which ignited combustible materials in proximity, leading to a rapid escalation.
