Two reps from PDP, LP defect to APC amidst internal crises
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP) each lost one lawmaker to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday. Hon. Peter Akpanke and Hon. Paul Nnamchi officially announced their defections during a plenary session, with their resignation letters presented by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas.
Akpanke, representing the Obanliku/Obudu/Bekwara Federal Constituency of Cross River State and originally elected under the PDP, stated that his decision was driven by ongoing internal crises within his former party.
Similarly, Nnamchi, who was elected from the LP to represent Enugu East/Isi Uzo Federal Constituency in Enugu State, also cited a need to support the policies and programs of the APC-led Federal Government.
Their announcements were met with applause from APC members in the chamber, and Speaker Abbas congratulated both lawmakers on their political transition.
