Two kidnappers killed in Rivers as 8 policemen arrested for extortion, assault
In a recent development in Rivers State, the police force has reported the killing of two suspected kidnappers during a confrontation in the state.
Additionally, eight police officers have been apprehended on charges of extortion and assault against a woman.
Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Nwonyi Emeka, made this revelation, disclosing that four of the police officers involved in the incident allegedly extorted a total of N6.5 million from three young men, whom they had accused of involvement in internet fraud.
During a press conference in Port Harcourt, Commissioner Emeka provided an overview of the command’s activities over the past week, highlighting these recent events.
Emeka clarified that the fatal encounter with the criminals occurred in the vicinity of Rumuodogo community in Emohua Local Government Area of the state.
The suspected kidnappers initiated gunfire upon sighting police personnel, resulting in a crossfire in which the two suspects lost their lives, while others managed to escape with gunshot injuries.
Furthermore, the police commissioner announced the arrest of four additional police officers serving in the state, who are facing allegations of assaulting a woman.
These officers are presently undergoing interrogation regarding their actions.
