Tricycle theft: One escapes as police detain two disabled individuals

The Lagos State Police have confirmed the detention of two Persons Living with Disabilities (PWDs) for their alleged involvement in an attempted tricycle theft from another disabled individual.

In a statement released on Sunday, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the police spokesperson, reported that the victim filed a complaint with the Denton Police Division on Thursday at 3:00 p.m.

The victim, a tricycle rider, recounted that on Wednesday at 8:00 p.m., he provided a ride to three disabled men from Boson Roundabout in Oyingbo to Third Mainland Bridge. Initially, he declined their request to drop them at the intersection of Third Mainland Bridge, but as he attempted to do so, one of the suspects brandished a cable wire, attempting to strangle him.

The rider fought back, managing to turn the tricycle around and return to Okobaba, where he successfully apprehended two of the suspects. The third suspect managed to escape during the commotion.

Following the incident, police detained the two suspects and recorded their statements. Preliminary investigations indicate that the trio specializes in snatching tricycles from unsuspecting individuals.

Hundeyin confirmed that the case is currently under investigation, with efforts ongoing to apprehend the escaped suspect.
