Tragedy as teenager drowns in Kaduna river

There’s tragedy in Kaduna as a teenager drowned in a river which flows through the Hayin Bello’s new Extension Community of Kaduna state.

It was learnt that the accident occurred around 8 am on Saturday.

Nobody had known that the teenager would not return, when she went to the riverside to dump some refuse.

Report has it that how the teenager slipped into the river remain sketchy.

The residents have gathered around the said river to show concern and watch local divers entering the water to search for the teenager.

“He was asked to go and dump some refuse but ended up falling into the river. We don’t know how it happened but we are hoping to find his body,” a resident told Daily Trust.

It was learnt that a pair of slippers suspected to be victim’s was recovered from the river.

The Village Head of Haying Bello, Alhaji Ibrahim Fagge, while confirming the incident, revealed that the victim drowned in a nearby community.

He added that people traced the river to the Hayin Bello community with the belief that they would retrieve the body.

He also implored parents to desist from sending their children to the river because it is unsafe.
