Tragedy as 19 member of Kano contingent to National Sports Festival dies in auto crash
No fewer than 19 members of the Kano State contingent to the just concluded National Sports Festival have died in an auto crash while returning back to Kano from the festival which was held in Ogun State.
It was gathered that the bus conveying the majority of the contingent crashed about 50 kilometres from Kano after passing Kaduna State.
It was further gathered that the bus conveying the athletes might have skipped off the Dakatsalle bridge and fell off it.
The Kano State Government has confirmed the incident, with the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso, expressing deep sorrow and assuring the public that the government would stand by the victims’ families.
The government has pledged to review safety measures for future travels involving official state teams.
Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, where the National Sports Festival was held, has also condoled with the Kano State Government over the tragic incident.
