Tobi Amusan gets World Athlete of the year nomination

 

Nigeria’s Queen of Track Oluwatobiloba Amusan has been nominated for the Women’s World Athlete of the year award.

The World Athletics released nominees for the award on its official Twitter handle on Wednesday afternoon.

Amusan, OON is the first Nigerian athlete in history to be nominated for the prestigious award alongside other Nine other athletes.

The other nominees are; Shanuae Miller-Uibo, Kimberly Garcia, Yaroslava Mahuchikh, Shericka Jackson and Yulimar Rojas.

Faith Kipyegon, Shelly-Ann Fraser- Pryce, Chase Ealey and Sydney McLaughlin will also vie for the coveted price.

The Ijebu-Ode born Track and field star won gold medal in the 100m hurdles at the World Athletics Championships in Oregon, United States of America in June, first of its kind in the history of Nigeria.

While she also retained her Diamond League title this year, the 25-year-old also set had earlier set a new world record of 12.12s in the semi-final of the Championship in Oregon.

Amusan was recently made an Ambassador by Telecommunications giant, Glo. Also rewarding her achievement, the Ogun State Governor gifted her a sum of N5 million and a house.
