Tinubu presents ₦1.78trn FCT budget to Reps, urges quick passage

On Tuesday, President Bola Tinubu unveiled a ₦1.78 trillion budget proposal for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), calling on lawmakers to expedite its passage for essential development projects.

The budget, totaling ₦1,783,823,708,309, was submitted in a letter to the Speaker of the House and presented during the plenary session in Abuja.

In his address, Tinubu highlighted that the budget is compliant with Section 299 of the Nigerian Constitution, which empowers the president to present the FCT’s budget to the legislature. He underscored that the proposed budget is designed to strengthen key sectors, including health, social welfare, agriculture, and employment.

“The passage of the budget would facilitate investment in health and social welfare, increase agricultural production, and improve the creation of jobs,” he stated.

Tinubu detailed that 85% of the budget allocation would be dedicated to completing ongoing infrastructure projects, while the remaining 15% would support new initiatives. “I urge the National Assembly to give this budget the urgent attention it deserves, in the interest of accelerating development within the FCT,” he emphasized.

This proposal represents one of the largest budgets ever for the FCT.
