Tinubu mourns as late Sheikh Muhyideen Ajani Bello buried in Oyo amid tears
The late famous Islamic preacher Sheikh Muyideen Ajani Bello has been buried in his Akobo, Ibadan home in Oyo State.
According to reports, the late Sheikh Bello was buried after the Muslim afternoon prayer (Asr) on Friday, December 6, according to Islamic rites.
The Informant247 had earlier reported the passing of Bello on Friday, December 6, 2024, at the age of 84.
Among the dignitaries that bid the late cleric farewell were the Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Barr. Abdul-Raheem Adebayo Lawal who led top government officials to the burial.
The sympathisers included members of different Muslim organisations, groups and individuals who were at the residence to pay their last respects to the late cleric.
Meanwhile, Nigerian President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has described as a rude shock, the death of the renowned Islamic scholar, Sheikh Muhyideen Ajani Bello, who died at the age of 84, leaving behind a legacy of deep spiritual insight and commitment to humanity.
Tinubu, in a statement issued on Friday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, described Sheikh Bello as a man of remarkable intellect and spiritual depth, whose life was devoted to serving Allah and spreading the teachings of the Holy Quran while highlighting his ability to provide peace and guidance through his unique interpretation of Islamic teachings, which resonated with Muslims across Nigeria and beyond.
He said, “Sheikh Bello’s early discovery of his divine purpose and his dedication to prayers, study, and meditation profoundly shaped his message and influenced the destinies of countless individuals.”

President Tinubu, while acknowledging late Sheikh Bello’s lifelong advocacy for charity, peace, and social harmony, praised the cleric’s unwavering counsel to leaders, urging trust, honesty, and fairness as essential pillars of governance, while offering prayers for the repose of Sheikh Bello’s soul and extended his condolences to the cleric’s family and the wider Muslim community.
He called on Nigerians to honour the late scholar’s legacy by embodying the principles of justice, compassion, and spiritual devotion that defined his life.
President Tinubu also urged reflection on Sheikh Bello’s enduring message of faith and unity.
