Tinubu engages Zacch Adedeji following FCTA’s closure of FIRS office in Abuja

Following Federal Capital Territory Authority’s closure of the Federal Inland Revenue Service over ground rent arrears, Nigerian President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday convened a series of high-level meetings at the State House in Abuja, including a significant discussion with Zacch Adedeji, chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).

The Informant247 reports that in a broader crackdown, FCTA officials sealed multiple properties within the capital, including the FIRS office, Access Bank in Wuse Market, and a Total filling station, citing longstanding defaults on ground rent payments.

The FIRS has publicly criticized the FCTA for its actions, with Aderonke Atoyebi, a technical assistant to the FIRS executive chairman, strongly refuting the claims of non-payment, emphasizing that the agency has settled all ground rent dues through 2023 and possesses the necessary documentation to prove it.

Referring to the FCTA’s actions, the FIRS labeled them as “malicious” and “unprofessional,” sparking a public dispute between the two entities.

In addition to discussing the FIRS situation, President Tinubu also met with Dele Alake, the minister of solid minerals development, and Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, the minister of budget and national development.
