Tinubu embarks on two-nation trip to Japan, Brazil Thursday
President Bola Tinubu will commence a significant two-nation journey on Thursday, which includes a brief stop in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to President on Information and Strategy, made this known on Wednesday, highlighting that the President’s first destination will be Japan, where he will participate in the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) in Yokohama from August 20 to 22.
The conference, themed “Co-create Innovative Solutions with Africa,” aims to drive economic transformation across the continent, enhance business environments through private investment and innovation, and promote a resilient and sustainable African society centered on human security, peace, and stability.
In addition to plenary sessions, President Tinubu is expected to hold bilateral meetings and engage with chief executives of Japanese companies that invest in Nigeria.
TICAD, initiated in 1993 by the Japanese government and co-hosted by various international organizations, is held every three years, alternating between Japan and an African country. The last conference took place in Tunisia in August 2022.
Following his engagements in Japan, Tinubu will travel to Brasília for a two-day state visit at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva from August 24 to 25.
Tinubu’s agenda in Brazil includes bilateral discussions with President Lula, participation in a business forum with Brazilian investors, and leading a delegation of ministers and senior officials to explore new cooperation avenues, including the signing of agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the Brazilian government.
