Tinubu directs immediate training, arming of forest guards to tackle insecurity

As part of urgent mesure to address insecurity, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday, directed the National Security Adviser, NSA, Nuhu Ribadu, to immediately intensify the training and arming of more forest guards.

Tinubu, while highlighting the ongoing threats posed by criminal elements, emphasised the need for comprehensive action.

According to him, “We face challenges here and there of kidnapping and terrorism. We need all the forces we can utilize. We need to protect our people.”

This was as the president had earlier approved the establishment of a national forest security service, aimed at securing Nigeria’s vast forest reserves that have often served as hideouts for bandits and terrorists.

President Tinubu stressed the importance of deploying well-equipped personnel to deny criminals safe havens and restore safety to rural communities.

“This comes after heightened efforts to address insecurity, including recent declarations of a national security emergency and calls for expanded recruitment across security agencies.

“The NSA’s office, in collaboration with relevant ministries, is tasked with ensuring swift implementation to bolster protection for Nigerians nationwide,” the statement said.
