Tinubu condoles Enugu gov, victims over fuel tanker explosion
Nigerian President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed sadness and condoled with Governor Peter Mbah and the people of Enugu State over the fatal fuel tanker explosion.
The Informant247 reports that at least 18 persons were reported dead while 13 others were rescued in a tanker fire-related accident on Saturday in Enugu State.
According to a statement by Olusegun Ogungbamide, the spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps, the crash, attributed to brake failure, involved 17 vehicles, including a petrol tanker, a water tanker, 15 cars, and a tricycle.
A preliminary revealed that the tanker, laden with premium motor spirit, lost control after the brakes failed, leading to a collision and a massive fire outbreak.
Meanwhile, in a statement on X by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, said Tinubu urged for caution and proper adherence to safety measures amongst road users, especially fuel tanker drivers while giving directives for proper enforcement of rules to avert recurring tanker accidents.
The statement reads: “President Bola Tinubu condoles with the government and the people of Enugu state over the fuel tanker explosion, which resulted in the loss of lives on Saturday.
“The fuel tanker reportedly spiralled out of control and burst into flames while navigating the Ugwu-Onyeama section of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway.

“President Tinubu commiserates with the families of the deceased and the injured and prays for the repose of the souls of the departed and quick recovery for those receiving medical treatment.
“The President calls for caution and adherence to safety measures among road users, particularly fuel tanker operators.
“Furthermore, he directs agencies in charge of enforcing traffic rules to implement measures to prevent recurring fuel tanker explosions nationwide”.
