Tinubu backs to Abuja after Türkiye trip
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu returned to Abuja on Saturday night after a successful state visit to the Republic of Türkiye, marked by major diplomatic and economic engagements.
The President arrived at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at about 8:55pm, where he was received by senior government officials in line with established protocol.
The visit featured high-level discussions on trade, investment, security, energy, education and defence cooperation, culminating in the signing of several bilateral agreements aimed at deepening Nigeria–Türkiye relations. Central to the talks was a renewed drive to grow trade volume between both countries to $5 billion.
President Tinubu had departed Abuja on Monday, January 26, following an invitation from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. During the visit, both nations agreed to establish a Joint Economy and Trade Committee to accelerate trade expansion and encourage increased Turkish investments in Nigeria.
At a joint press briefing in Ankara, President Erdoğan commended President Tinubu’s commitment to attracting foreign investment, noting that the presence of key Nigerian ministers and top government officials demonstrated Nigeria’s seriousness in strengthening economic ties with Türkiye.
