Tinubu approves N5bn relief for Kano singer market fire victims

The Federal Government has approved a N5 billion relief package for traders affected by the devastating fire that razed parts of Singer Market in Kano.

Vice-President Kashim Shettima disclosed this on Monday during a sympathy visit to the market, stating that the intervention was aimed at helping victims rebuild their businesses and restore economic activities disrupted by the inferno.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the sum of N5 billion to support traders affected by the Singer Market fire. The Federal Government stands with you in this moment of hardship and will continue to provide the necessary support,” Shettima said.

The fire, which broke out last Saturday, destroyed goods and property worth billions of naira, leaving hundreds of traders in distress.

Describing the incident as a national tragedy, the Vice-President said the loss was not only to Kano State but to the entire country. He was accompanied by the governors of Jigawa, Kebbi and Imo states during the visit.

Shettima also offered prayers for the victims and prayed to Almighty Allah to prevent a recurrence of such disasters.

Chairman of the Singer Market Traders Association, Junaid Zakari, expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for what he described as a timely and generous intervention. He assured that the funds would be used transparently and judiciously to support affected traders and restore business activities in the historic market.
