“They came for me” — Bandits kidnap mother in Lafiagi village attack

Fear has gripped residents of Bishewa village, near Zambufu in the Lafiagi Emirate of Edu Local Government Area, after armed bandits stormed the community in a late-night raid and abducted a woman.

Eyewitnesses said the attackers, numbering about ten, rode into the village on motorcycles, shooting sporadically to instil fear before seizing their victim.

The abducted woman’s son, who narrowly escaped the assault, said he was the intended target but was away on a community patrol when the armed men arrived.

“They came for me,” he recounted. “We heard the sound of about ten motorcycles heading toward our village. Everyone took cover, but when we realised we couldn’t repel them, we fled for our lives. They kept firing and went away with my mother.”

The incident occurred less than 24 hours after another resident of the community was freed following the payment of a ₦5 million ransom to secure their release.

Residents of Bishewa and neighbouring villages have expressed deep concern over the escalating insecurity in the Lafiagi Emirate, urging the Kwara State Government and security agencies to intensify efforts to safeguard rural communities.

“May Allah grant the safe return of our innocent mother and prevent future occurrences,” one resident prayed.
