Terrorists abduct OPC chieftain, two others during ransom delivery in Kwara

Confusion has continued to trail the abduction of a chieftain of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), Comrade Bayo Fabiyi, alongside two others in Oko-Irese, Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.

Fabiyi was reportedly abducted with a driver and another associate while travelling to deliver ransom and other items for the release of a previously kidnapped victim.

Sources said the team was conveying about ₦30 million, five motorcycles, and three bags of rice when they were ambushed by armed men.

Findings indicate that the ransom delivery was part of efforts to secure the release of a victim abducted earlier in the same community.

However, a source familiar with the incident alleged that the victim had been killed by the kidnappers before the ransom team arrived, a development said to be unknown to those sent on the mission.

The abductors were reported to have directed the team into a forested area along a route linking Kwara and Kogi states, where they were subsequently seized at gunpoint.
It was further gathered that Fabiyi had received warnings against embarking on the journey but proceeded nonetheless.

Sources also indicated that the incident was not immediately reported to security agencies.

When contacted, the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, said the command had not received any formal report of the incident at the time of inquiry, adding that investigations would commence upon official notification.
