Tension at Plateau morgue as corpse disappears

The family of a deceased person, David Atimbi Adi, on Wednesday morning, couldn’t find the corpse of their relative at the mortuary and there was tension at the Bingham University Teaching Hospital Jos, the Plateau State Capital.

According to DAILY POST, the deceased, David Atimbi Adi a 33-year-old man passed away last week after a protracted illness, and his corpse was deposited at the mortuary of the aforementioned hospital last Thursday.

The family of the deceased realized the corpse was missing at the morgue after they had concluded the arrangements for his burial.

A family member, Mr Paul, who spoke with news men said, “Our brother died last week after a protracted illness and we deposited his corpse at the Bingham University Hospital Jos, unfortunately, we got here this morning so that we can go and bury him in Rukuba, in Bassa LGA, and his corpse was nowhere to be found.

“This is ridiculous; they must be joking, we are even hearing that the corpse was taken since Monday, by who?

“We don’t want any trouble, all we are saying is they should produce our brother’s remains so that he can be laid to rest”, he maintained.

Mr Benjamin, a neighbour to the deceased, who also expressed his dissatisfaction over the issue said, “It is unfortunate we are hearing this kind of story, this young man is an orphan, who was very sick, he was even assisted by friends so that he can get treated, sadly he passed on.

“Now we are here to go and bury him and we are hearing another pathetic story, this is pure negligence on the part of the management of this hospital”, he lamented.

“Well, we are not leaving this place until they bring out his corpse; he suffered before he died, should he still suffer in death?

It was reported that there were security operatives at the front gate of Bingham University Teaching Hospital, while the main entrance and exit gates were locked.

The Spokesman of the Plateau State Police Command, ASP Gabriel Ogaba said, when contacted, said, “I am yet to get information about that. Will furnish you with information as soon as I get.”
