Teenager bags 18-month jail term for internet fraud in Ilorin

A 25-year-old teenager, Olumide Olaleye, was on Monday sentenced to 18-month imprisonment by a Federal High Court sitting in Ilorin, on Monday, over offences bordering on internet fraud.

The convict hails from Odo-Otin Local Government Area of Osun state.

The Ilorin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC) secured the conviction.

In his judgement, the judge, Justice Sani, found the defendant guilty of the three counts preferred against him.

The judge sentenced him to six months in prison, on each count, to run concurrently, with an option of fine of N100,000 on each count.

The court also ordered the forfeiture of the iPhone 6 recovered from the convict at the time of arrest, to the federal government and to restitute $504 to his victims.

Olaleye was one of the suspects arrested at Ogbomosho, Oyo State, on October 26, 2021 following actionable intelligence about the activities of persons suspected to be fraudsters.

The defendant pleaded guilty to the charge. (NAN)
