Taiwo Awoniyi scores match winner as FC Union Berlin secures vital win over FC Koln

Taiwo Awoniyi has sent another strong message to his ‘admirers’, scoring the match-winner when FC Union Berlin defeated FC Koln in the Bundesliga on Friday night.

The Nigerian international scored in the 49th minute to help Union Berlin secure the three points in a tough-soaked encounter.

The win has now put an end to Union Berlin’s three straight games without a win (two defeats, one draw).

While the goal means his 12th of the season, he has now scored a total number of 16 goals in all competitions.

The victory has now pushed Union Berlin above Cologne to seventh place on 41 points and are three points away from sixth place, which is the European Conference League qualification spot.

Newcastle, Southampton, and West Ham are among the clubs interested in signing former Liverpool striker from Union Berlin this summer.

The Nigerian is valued at £25m, and Liverpool would be entitled to 10 per cent of any transfer fee as part of a sell-on clause inserted in the deal which took him to Germany last year.
